I had a bit of concern about her son, my Great Grandad John Murphy, having Thomas down as his father on his marriage cert when we were certain it is Patrick.
So I ordered the birth cert and John's father is Patrick and mother is Catherine Fitzgarner. The Thomas on the marraige cert must be his brother...
Trouble is, you will not find a single person anywhere with the surname Fitzgarner.
So I though maybe Fitzgamer but they are as rare as a Scotsman buying you a Pint.
The writing on the certificate is pretty clear but she would have had a broad Irish accent and was illiterate so would have relied on the Clerk to get her name correct.
Anybody want to guess what her surname might be taking the accent into consideration?

Looking more closely at the name on the certificate it looks like the splling is Fitzgarmen.
So I reckon it was the Cork accent confusing the West Brom Clerk and the name is Fitz Gibbon.

But then I have a baptism for Thomas Murphy on the 12th December 1856 in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow (where Catherine says she comes from).
Parents are Patrick Murphy and Catherine Fitzgerald.
