Re: George Lloyd Williams-By Rob
Thanks to the kind help and guidance of certain people on this site i've started finding things out for myself concerning genealogy.
Luckily i'm a quick learner and i only have to be told things once to fully understand!!
I know my ggggrandfater George Lloyd Williams was born in 1798 Halesowen Worcestershire.
He was married to Phoebe Price and they had at least 3 children.
John christened 1828 my gggrandfather.
Mary Ann christened 1830
Emanuale christened 1833 all in Halesowen.
What i would like is a look up on the 1841 and 1851 census to determine where they lived and who was in their household.
Next step of course is to join Ancestry!!

that is great Rob well done!
Now not one to prick your bubble or indeed dent your new found enthusiasm
BUT....how do you know George Williams was born then?
the name is very common and you would surely need to double check on ancestry to determine the actual age of George
n'est pas!!
Georgie could be born 1800 or even earlier!!
So if a job is worth doing its worth doing well dont you think Robert
put your hand in your pocket and join Ancestry
or
we will look any up for you
verify the ages too re the bapts against dobs....and where born etc

Re: George Lloyd Williams-By Rob
Incidentally, on the FamilySearch site ...
If you want to find siblings of George Lloyd, because his Christening entry is an Extracted record,
* go to the page for his entry,
* look for the Batch Number and click on that.
* This will give you a search form with the Batch number and Region already filled in.
* Leave the First Name blank,
* enter Williams as the Last Name,
* enter the parents' first names that you have just found out
(don't fill in any other details),
* click search,
et ... Voila!
Not all these children are necessarily George's brothers and sisters as the spread of years is quite large, but it's possible. Now you have further searching made possible as they all could be on the census with their new families.
If you are delving further into the mysteries of the LDS site, Marie could be a great source of information as she is an expert in this area.
Are you hooked yet?
PS. Might want to check the Family Trees on Ancestry. There's one there that suggests a lot more information. Want some clues?
Warning - All info on Ancestry Family Trees needs further checking as people often jump to unsubstantiated conclusions.

Extra tidbit on Family search - at the top of the home page there are a set of tabs- clicking on Search gives you a dropdown with the option of using a pilot search this includes several of the UK censuses although to see a full sheet you have to buy vouchers through Find my Past
Also - don't be surprised and misled by strange spellings. Anything indexed on the web has had to be transcribed to digital form - many early records are difficult to read or used a fancy script plus some of the early recorders were only marginally literate - this adds up to lots of mistakes.
SO it the ages are right, the number of children right and the place right - then they are probably yours even is the surname is Wollions instead of WIlliams
My favorite were two Richards that married two Sarahs on the same day in the same church - both were extracted records. I finally got the parish record and discovered that the vicar had spelled the brides name Sheislin and she had signed the register Shortland - the transcriber had dutifully entered the marriage twice.

Re: George Lloyd Williams-By Rob
Rob it would be good to add this lot to Connections...BUT you are going to have to actually look at the census for some of those name as they may have been just transcribed by ancestry as what they think it said. So always look at the image yourself.
And....even then....check on the actual name registered on free bmd or bmsgh....eg ember and America and spelling of emily and Phebe.
So dble check before you stick it on please...cos I hope that you will stick it somewhere..shame to waste that info!

I've put all this stuff on the connections.
Here's a tip for "newbies"remember to use < br > when putting information on to space it out a bit!!
Also add your name to the notes so people know who's put it on.

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.
