Hi NIkki & Alec
There is a noughty idea the I should commit a small crime - not too serious but enough for a DNA record. Then get hold of one of those SPOOKS to look round for likerly family criminals! Maybe not :(

You have to laugh Nikki

I signed up provisionarily with ancester.co.uk and read the birth index for the first set of Alex's names to get the 'Vol' and 'Page' of the record. Can I view these pages on line to get the birth dates so that I can reject names too far from 3'1/8/28 or do they have to be examined directly?

Hi Baff & Nikki

Unfortunately you would have to see the actual certificate entries to find exact birth dates :(

You can probably discount first quarter but second and fourth quarters will still be possibilities with third quarter most likely :)

I was deposited at a Leytonstone (London) convent at the end of February 1929 and passed on to the LCC (now GLC) and judged to be 6 months old and given a 'birth' date of 31st August.

Here is a potted history. I was thought to be about 5 months old when I was found on the doorstep of a convent.

From your earlier comments (above) your birth would have been either end Aug.1928 or end Sept.1928
meaning your birth should have been registered either 3rd or 4th qtr 1928 ......
However, as Alec said, I wouldn't completely discount 2nd qtr ....... it's hard to judge the age of a baby, when all they had to go on was your size .... you could have been small/large for your age ..... don't forget, if you were premature you would probably be smaller than other babies of the same age :?
