ARC tbc - medical records? half sister

Post by kilotank »

Hi everyone

This is a bit of a tricky one.

I am trying to establish a 'living' half sister to my wife.
The complication is that the mother was hospitalised long term when the birth is thought to have happended.
Also, my wife was fosterred at an early age.
There are no hospital records for the mother (This was in the 60's) logged at the LMA and the hospital has since been demolished.
I have a death certificate for the mother but it is not possible to establish her living blood realtives.
I have searched through all birth records through Ancestry.co.uk for the dates we believe the sister would have been born but nothing is showing up.
I have looked for marriage records for the mother during the relavant period of possible birth dates for the sister and there is only one 'tentative' possiblity, but the death certificate shows the mothers maiden name so this suggests she never married (the nature of the hospitalisation suggests marriage was not common but would occur very rarely). Likewise, there are no birth records pertinent to the identified married name around the correct dates.

I am now wondering if it is possible to gain access to hospital records of the mother where the birth may be recorded. We can prove next of kin and we know the alternative local hospital where the birth would have taken place.

Does anyone know how to do this?
Does anyone have any other ideas?

This is my first family tree so I do not know all the tricks of the trade.

Thanks in anticipation

After chasing down a few adoptions myself I can tell you, don't try it alone, ask the experts.

These people are able to help

Laws change all the time and the UK legislation is far more complicated than what I have had to deal with in Australia.

Is this still a Brickwall, or have you solved it?
