Who's Horry? And where did she go?
Living with Great Great Grandma, Maria Round nee Price nee Upton (and soon to be Brown) in the 1901 census is a mystery grandaughter, Horry May Price.
Address: 172, Queen Street, Walsall
County: Staffordshire
ROUND, James Head Married M 58 1843 Clock Maker West Bromwich Staffordshire
ROUND, Maria Wife Married F 51 1850 Brownhills Staffordshire
ROUND, Eliza Daughter Single F 21 1880 Saddle Stitcher Brownhills Staffordshire
ROUND, Rhoda Daughter Single F 20 1881 Bridle Stitcher Brownhills Staffordshire
ROUND, Edith Daughter Single F 8 1893 Hednesford Staffordshire
PRICE, Horry Grand Daughter F 6 1895 Perry Barr Staffordshire
TAYLOR, Joseph Boarder Widower M 63 1838 Blacksmith Darlaston Staffordshire
This would be her birth index.
Name: Horry May Price
Year of Registration: 1895
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: West Bromwich
County: Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire
Volume: 6b
Page: 865
Maria and her first husband, George Price, only had daughters so Horry must have been born out of wedlock to have the Price surname.
Of the daughters, the only one who could be Horry's mother are:
Mary Price born 1871 (she if my G Grandmother..married Fredrick Dodd)
Clara Ann Price born 1875 she married John Henry Baily in 1899
Eliza Price born 1880. She is called Eliza Round in the 1901 census. She marries Alfred Rose in 1911.
Rhoda Price born 1882 (I have had other give birth at 13). Sheis called Rhoda Round in the 1901 census. She marries Frank Herbert Hinklin in 1907.
Great Grandma Mary did have a child out of wedlock in 1891 called Florence May Price so I doubt she would have another with May in the name.
I can find no trace of Horry after the 1901 census.
Who is her mum? Where did she go?

Re: Who's Horry? And where did she go?
Just a thought, she may have dropped the Horry bit and just called hereself May. There are these 3 marriages in the Dudley/West Brom area, but only the first 2 can be looked up at the archives.
1913 this one may be too early - no pun intended........
PRICE May M HOWARD Joseph T Blackheath, St Paul Dudley Register Office 012/005/173
1920
PRICE May K PLANT Joseph P Brierley Hill, St Michael Dudley Register Office 210/009/80
1923
PRICE May HOMER Albert J Dudley Register Office Dudley Register Office DRO/052/10
I would have a look for just May on FMP but England are playing and it won't even load

Don't know how good the search engines are on the subscriptions you have. But have you tried searching for a death for a Horry May ?????. I know it's a long shot, but my G/Grandmother always used her middle name on census and marriage certs, it was only on her birth and death certs that her full name was used. Caused me loads of problems..........
I've tried on Free BMD but the later deaths don't seem to have been transcribed. Don't think it's possible on FMP.

The 1911 is
Maria Brown 61 wid 10,5,5
Clara Ann Bailey dau 35 wid 1,1
Eliza Price dau 30 single
Edith Round dau 18 single
Florence May Dodd neice 19 single
Alfred Rose boarder 40 single
William Nock boarder 69 wid
So, if that is to be believed, Eliza is ruled out as Horry's mother because she had no children.
Clara is down as having a living child so it could be her.
Not sure why Forence May is down as niece when she is surely grandaughter?
In 1911 Mary Dodd is said to have had 7 children, 5 alive. 4 of those are with them and then there is Florence May I think so two children who died.
And Rhoda Hicklin claims to have born one child (living, Frank Earest aged 2).
Based on the 1911 census, Horry May could either have been a child of Mary and died before 1911, or a child of Clara and still living in 1911.

Re: Who's Horry? And where did she go?
They were the first two 1911 census I ever downloaded way back in the dark ages and I never noticed Clara had claimed to have a child.....
With Frederick's househould they have not claimed Florence May Dodd in their total of children for the marriage.
Florence is incorrectly marked as Niece in the Brown household. (I think any man who thought of marrying Great Grandma after three husbands would have second thoughts....).
I never did figure out the two dead as you can't, as yet, search the earlier births based on the mother's name.
The 5th living child not in Frederick's House in 1911 is my Grandfather, Frederick Horace Dodd, who is spending some quality time at Stokes Prior Farm Reformatory
Horry is not a common name. There are very few deaths for Horrys and none fit.
Horry was registed in the 1st Qtr 1895. Frederick and Mary got married in May and it doesn't say they were living in the same house before the marriage but the same street.
On Australian marriage certificates you must declare the number of existing children dead and alive which helps a lot with this type of puzzle.
So it may be their child but why was Horry not living with them in 1901 like Florence May?
Looks like Clara is a good candidate for mother but where has the child gone?
