COMPLETED FOR THIS YEAR!--'Ancestors Week' 21st – 27th June

Post by mallosa »

We at Genealogy Forum UK are proud to be associated with -

'Ancestors Week' 21st - 27th June

A time to remember all those that came before us and made us who we are.
It doesn't matter who or where you are in the world, we all have ancestors, so within this week, maybe we could get behind our local history groups or help to organise events?
Perhaps meet up with new found family members or even friends you have made during your research?

Hope you will be marking it with us, we would welcome your support

Thankyou

from all of us at Genealogy forums uk and Black Country Connections

We launched Ancestors Week in 2009, the idea started with a discussion between a few of us on this forum.
It was said that we have Mothers day Fathers Day etc and we wondered about a 'national ancestors day' where we might remember all those who made us who we are.
This then lead to 'Ancestors Week', favoured by some because it would enable those who would like to participate, to organise events etc.

We then designed a T-Shirt but it was too late for 2009

Unfortunately ordering them for everyone would pose more problems than I anticipated

but... there's nothing to stop anyone ordering one themselves. If this is the case please pm me and I will give you the contact details
If you would like to have your ancestors photo's included in our Gallery, please send me a pm.

I am going to help out transcribing Headstones during Ancestors week and I will go wearing my T.shirt , carrying my BCC bag with all my stuff in.

It would be nic if it could be Officially recognised.

I still might get a T. shirt they look great!

But I will deffo be at the archives that week doing some transcribing for the BCC tree
which helps people who can't get to the archives and will be even visiting a cemetary
to find the grave of one of my ancestors

It's all about taking a bit of time to reflect on our past present and future

Even if all you do is join us on this Genealogy forum Uk,
a friendly relaxed place to start your family history,
try and take some time this week to remember those that came before.

I will be off to the archives in the week to do some look ups
to add to the BCC tree that will keep the memory of those alive a little
and hopefully help others

Cheers NL

like you Northern Lass I am doing my bit for 'Ancestors Week' it's going to be the Archives for me and transcribing for the family history society , plus I would like to visit all my ancestors graves that are local and take some flowers to let them known I care.

Do wish more people and society's would celebrate this week. :-)

Well I was hoping to get to Birmingham archives sometime this week but that's not gonna happen.
However I've still got loads more transcription photo's to add to the gallery - added 146 so far and another 70 to go thanks to Peterd.

Hopefully, it will help others in their research

Hi Mallosa, yes the photo's you have added will help lots of people and also give others a lot of pleasure, I have been transcribing and then at the weekend I am going to take flowers to my different ancestors resting places.

Thanks Annie, you're certainly doing your bit for Ancestors Week

I wonder if anyone reading this would like to tell us if they have any particular plans or perhaps something they have done already?

I Went to the archives today at Dudley
it was nice and quiet and they very kindly showed me around the place
I viewed an old document dated 1182 something to do with the pope agreeing to
a monastry? being built
it was only a brief view ....but 1182!!
