Ever feel like you are on a roundabout?

Post by Aussie_Brit »

Why is it that everywhere you go on the internet seems blocked by one thing or another? Everyone wants payment for the smallest peek of information even if you find it means nothing. And then, when you search for free stuff you get the royal runaround! First you get a web page that shows you heaps of links, so you read through and pick one you think is relevant, click on the link to be taken to another page almost the same as the one you left, and then after a couple more, you are magically transported back to the one you were at in the first place.
It's so frustrating!

The Latter Day Saints are moving very quickly to provide as much free Genealogical information as possible.

They have teams all aroung the world teaching people how to record and transcribe and I know for a fact that some fantastic records from PROV in Victoria and the National and State libraries in Australia are being digitised.

I don't mind companies making a profit on the transcription and indexeding work they have done.

But I also like the idea of public records being digitised and made avalable for free as much as possible.

The latest digitising of the shipping records into N.S.W and Victoria is fantastic and has saved me a few trips.

The online wills in Tasmania is another recent addition that has helped me a lot.

So the free resources are increasing in number.
