*Arc tbc* ---PR look up St Julian, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Post by ChrisH »

Hi everyone, if possible I'd like to request a look up please. It's for a christening for Mary Ann Wood christened 30 Mar 1808 St Julian, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. Parents Robert & Ann Wood. I have a copy of a patron submitted IGI form but it does not list the occupation of the father which I need to compare to other info I have. Getting to my local Family History Center to order the film of the original parish records is extremely difficult for me due to scheduling. If anyone can help out in this area I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Chris not sure if anyone goes to Shrewsbury but hey if you dont ask you dont get.....but I am not sure before 1813 you will get the occupation on the PR..I have these notes..
"It was only with the introduction of pre-printed registers in the Church of England that information additional to the names of the parties concerned was required. For Baptisms and Burials these registers were introduced in 1813. For Baptisms this required in addition to the date of baptism and the names of the parties concerned, the abode of the parents and the occupation of the father"

But I use Dudley and Sandwell and they are very very helpful and Shrops may for a charge send you the info worth asking how much in an email if noone is going

Thanks for the info. I'm probably out of luck if no occupation was recorded prior to 1813, but it's not the end of the world. The occupation would only be an additional fact to prove a relationship, but I have enough to go on otherwise.
