Hi Susy, I checked the Old Swinford Census for 1851 and there is not one John Chance who is listed as a Glass Manufacturer. Also checked Bentley's Directory for 1841, no Chance in there under Glass Makers. Are you sure he didn't just work for a Glass Manufacturer rather than being one himself? Some records in books and the like aren't always 100% accurate. I also have a Chance Tree for Old Swinford, there is no John Chance Glass Manufacturer on there either, although there were a lot of John Chances. Linell.

I found this on a Charterist List:-
CHANCE, John of Old Swinford, one of the main leaders of The Chartist Movement in the Blackcountry together with Sam Cooke.
Sam Cooke was Samuel Cook of Dudley, one of the leaders of the movement.

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

if you need it back for further discussion just pm a moderator and we can
bring it back to the board
It might be an idea to visit Dudley Archives or contact them to see if they
have any more information, I know they do on Samuel Cook.
