That's right Jimmy - he worked in the gas works in West Bromwich the rest of his working life.
That's the correct census for 1881.
George's son Charlie also worked in the gas works, he's down as informant on George's death certificate with the address as the gas works.
It sounds like a possibility: Navy or merchant navy.

OOPS! :oops:
Sorry guys - let me correct myself - Charlie was George Jinks' grandson, and it is Charlie's fathers death certificate he appears on!!
That'll teach me for being too eager to reply, and being at work I didn't double check as I thourght i could remember - on the way home I realised my mistake. I should know better, seeing as my rule number one is "check and double check". :oops:
