I understand that but if you want to try to identify which one he is without getting a certificate you need to look outside the box to see if there are any clues elsewhere if we can find the 1911 census then we can find out how long they say they have been married and how many children they had etc. --maybe therefore whether we are looking at the right one

Right now I am thinking that the R Higgs could be "uncle" Robert born 1846

Can't find a possibility for the first marriage!

:?: Did they marry? --
:?: Was Alfred E -- Charles son or Ellen's but took Charles name? -- can't find possible birth !

Looks like getting a certificate is necessary but which one depends on what info would be most useful.

Age and place of birth match for Ellen?
I think its best, always is really, to get a certificate.

I agree with Jo, this speculation is not really much help, you need to order the certificate.

Yes but it depends on what information Andrew needs as to which would be most useful if he is on a limited budget.

Jessie Rose birth certificate would give mother's maiden name
Charles Higgs marriage certificate would give father's name and occupation -- that might narrow down census

You still need the Certificate to prove any theory you may have.
