COMPLETED Death Record

Post by edwardjrichards »

Hi all

I am a newbie here and need some help please.

For some years I tried to find my great-grandmother's, Helena Herridge, death record.

I managed to find her burial record in Southern Cemetery, Manchester from the General Manchester Burials and Cemetery Index.

Now there is a twist here, you cannot be buried unless you have a death certificate first! Is this correct?

She was buried on 7th October 1939, originally she was listed as "Horridge" (now amended), I have also checked using this surname and nothing turns up.

I am wondering if anyone can help here please or point me in the right direction?

Regards
Edward

Great, could I ask where did you pull this information from please?

Could you please explain what the code means as I looked at google map and Cheadle is South of Manchester and she lived in Old Trafford which is some distance away?

What is CHD/2/10? Is that an index reference?

No, don't have any problems pulling up the census, birth, marriage records, just her death records.

Seems Peter D has pulled it up for me :-)

When I understand the line he has pulled up a bit better then I will request a death certificate.

The Marjoram is the next question I will put up on the post shortly when this is closed!

I think Pete got that info from UKBMD site, the code at the end is the reference you will need to send for a death cert. If your search for UKBMD then put in the info, when the death comes up, if you click on it, it will take you to a form to fill in and send for the cert.

It looks like Peter has given you the local office ref number you would need if you ordered it from thre.
From ancestry its recorded as
Helena Aerridge, 1939, age 71, North East Cheshire, 8a 355
Thats how it is recorded on the Index.
You would need that ref, 8a 355, if you ordered from GRO.

Many thanks Jo for explaining this.

Thanks to Peter D for pulling this up.

I have downloaded the Index record.

Maybe the recorder misread "H" for "A" - it happens!
