William Graham b 1818

Post by RobertGraham1940 »

My interest is in a William Graham, born ca 1818, and although not of Eaglesfield I believe his origins to have been in the area. This William Graham was in Newcastle in the 1841 census and married there in 1842 - giving his father as another William Graham, a tailor by trade, but deceased. In subsequent censuses he was consistent in giving Cockermouth as his birthplace, and once, in 1851, he extended this by adding Embleton. He seems to have been a "carpenter", "joiner" or "house carpenter" by trade.
The only William I have been able to identify in the area, and I have left those actually born in Cockermouth itself out of cosideration, is one born in Lorton - a hefty stones throw from Eaglesfield - 2/3 miles away. Unsurprisingly his father was a William, who seems to have started life in Plumbland ca 1792, and died in 1837. His mother was an Anne Eland, born Lorton in 1794, and she and William Sen. were married in Lorton in 1815 - all courtesy of the IGI
Can anyone out there shed any light on my problem, which is trying to reconcile all the above with William believing he was linked to Embleton, or is there another William who was actually born in Embleton?
