Halesowen Map and Area
I'm trying to pinpoint where on the map my family may have lived, now I don't know the area - plus not massively familiar with the regions and how sometimes they seem to shift.
http://cmis.dudley.gov.uk/CMISWebPublic ... ument=5448
The 1885 map I am looking at mainly, and because in my family seemed to live around these parts.
1841
Civil Parish - Hales Owen
Hundred - Brimstree
County - Shropshire
Regional District - Stourbridge
1851
Civil Parish - Cakemore
Eccleastical Parish - Quinton Christ Church
County - Worcestershire
Regional District - Stourbridge
Street - Hurst Green
1861
Civil Parish - Hill
Eccleastical Parish - Halesowen
County - Worcestershire
Regional District - Stourbridge
Street - Brock Street
1871
Civil Parish - Hill
Eccleastical Parish - Blackheath
Town - Crock Street
County - Worcestershire
Regional District - Stourbridge
Street - Crock Street
1881
Civil Parish - Ridgacre
County - Worcestershire
Regional District - Stourbridge
Street - Hagley Road
1891
Civil Parish - Hill
Eccleastical Parish - Quinton
County - Worcestershire
Regional District - Stourbridge
Street - Hagley Road
Now the maps I have there, seems to have Cakemore and Hurst Green right on the edge and then the outskirts of Quinton, so it maybe the case that the map is inadequate.
But if I know the direction, and it is the case that my ancestors lived just off this map, then at least I will have a point of reference for which to build upon.

Re: Halesowen Map and Area
Nick, there are plenty of Halesowen Maps on here:-
http://www.halesowenroots.com
Your area's of Hurst Green, The Hill, Ridgeacre, think the other one is Brook Street not Crock Street, are north east of Halesowen, up what is now the Hagley Road on into Birmingham. HTH Linell.

It clearly states on my census though that it's Crock Street, do you think it just could have been written down wrong? How were street signs back then?

Right so the maps of the Halesowen roots site are showing Cakemore and Hurst Green area, but not Ridgacre or Crock Street.

Ridgeacre is further on, not a Halesowen Parish. Have you tried Google Maps?

Re: Halesowen Map and Area
Well seeing it as it is now is odd as Crock Street is probably no longer there.
I'm currently writing up my findings and I am going to try and match up locations to census's, ready for when I put it all together in my own personal Toye family tree website. (I'm a professional web designer you see.)

Dudley and Quinton and Halesowen and Stourbridge
What are the connections? My family are appearing in these areas through the 19th century.

Right, I'm trying to build up a trail of movement from one part of the country to the other.
So all useful.
