I find they are better for different things -- ancestry tends to give wider options if you don't put in too much info but I like the way that you can move between different census on FMP and the info stays ready for a new search -- it would be good if you could put in more than one county on FMP especially as some of our places jump between three or four depending on the census.

why not go for a month trial on FMP if they are doing it at the moment and try it out before deciding?

Find My Past has not completed all census but there are holes in Ancestry as well.

Both of them are terrible with their transcription errors but the images are must clearer on FMP and I find myself looking at those to help sort out "differences".

FMP seems to ignore the county information on some census so many places "on the border" end up being listed under the wrong one.

The search engine on Ancestry is much better but both of them pale compared to TheGenealogist.

In terms of BMD lookup, FMP is utter rubbish compared to Ancestry.

Ancestry have by far the best BMD lookup engine and it is improving every month as they are doing what the government failed to do, properly index the BMD.

FMP have several things I can't live without. The 1911 census and the passenger records out of the UK.

Their Chelsea Pensioner (soldier records) are also becoming invaluable.

If I was to chosse one over the other I would go for Ancestry. The family tree hosting is infinately better and the BMD lookup is superb.
Black Holes happen when God divides by zero.
