Once again a huge thanks to everyone for all the free help.

Jimmy, can you tell me what 2c 45 refers to please? Do I need to quote this to see a marriage certificate ? Do I need to write to the Registrar at Southampton or can I safely get a copy online ?

I also am interested to know if there would be paperwork archives in respect of immigration in those days? If so, I imagine they would be rather detailed, so very useful for my existing relatives in Germany, who can find no trace of Mary Stupakoff but only her siblings.

Any other Stupakoffs in Southampton would be of interest ( possibly in earlier times ). If not then it would at least eliminate that possibility.

Here is a photo of the Buckler family you have been investigating :

I am not sure what you quote when ordering certs, but the 2c is a volume no, and 45 is page no I think.

Thankyou and I have just ordered a marriage certificate for my GGrand parents from Southampton. It was so easy with the information you have all given me and I was not on the phone for more than one minute, I will not believe it until the certificate arrives in the post.

Now I must educate myself about immigration papers and find out if copies can be obtained and where from.

Yes, I thought it would mean more to those of you who have been so helpful.

The little boy at the front Frank Buckler was my grandfather but he died of lung cancer long before I was born. He was a chain smoker ! He was an entreprenure and a Freeman of the City of London and he invented and manufactured the first ladies compacts using solid powder and won a contract with Woolworths. He also invented an "everlasting" road surface called "Steelascon" and it was first used for the length of Hammersmith High Street but proved so inpenetrable that they were unable to attend to the services below and he never got another contract from any other council. In spite of, or because of his many other wild ideas he eventually became bankrupt.

Thanks to the good members of this forum, I have already received a copy of the marriage certificate of my Great Grandparents dated 1873, from the Southampton Registrar. Very sparse details but a couple of items that will be a great help in making further enquiries in Germany where I am lucky to have a German speaking 3rd. cousin on the same quest.

I gather that immigation records are kept at National Archives Kew. If any member has experience of these and advice I would be pleased to listen.

regards and thanks.
