*To be Archived*Tuff nut to crack........

Post by Vikinghunter »

I have the birth and marriage certificates of: Nanna Helen MOLLER

born 14 Oct 1877 in Clerkenwell

married 25 March 1902 in the Islington register office to an Ernest TREMAINE which would mean she became Nanna Helen TREMAINE.

I find it strange that I seem unable to find any trace of her death certificate. I can't even find any death reference to her husband Ernest.

The only thing I can think of is I've either missed their listings, or they emigrated from the UK to some other place or they were both killed somewhere in a direct hit during the Blitz when they would have been in their mid 60s?

Wonder if any of you wizards out there might have more luck than me in tracing this person's ref No, etc so I can get the dc from the GRO?

Thanks

David

Oh wow, many thanks Grangers14 for that info.

Another cert to send off for now. Never knew her hubby Ernest was a music hall artiste. How do I access his army records?

The information I have so far is Ernest (stationer's asst) and Nanna (no profession listed) married in March 1902, him aged 24, her 23 which is a year after the then last census (1901). It's a vast change from being a mere clerk to a Music Hall Artiste! Being aged 24 in 1902 would make his year of birth approx 1878 but I don't seem to be able to trace his birth and death - a very mysterious person..... Also I'm sure the 1911 census would reveal quite a bit of info but, alas, I don't have access to that at the moment.

Mind you, I have found a death entry for an Ernest Tremaine at Cleveland 9d 503 Oct-Dec 1943 but doubt very much that's him as it's quite a distance from London. Without his birth info he "may" have come from that area then returned there after a failed marriage/career move if, indeed that did happen (or maybe was killed in action in WW1?)

Hi Farside - thanks for the info - you're fast!

Ah, seems my "problem" was they had his name down as Trimaine instead of Tremaine......

I see on both his 1902 marriage cert and the 1911 census here he's a stationer's assistant so maybe the Music Hall Artiste theory is not quite right?

I'm still puzzled why I can't find his death cert. Maybe that's also listed under Tri rather than Tre? Will try later (it's past me bedtime folks  )

I did type a detailled reply just now then LOST it! Grrrrr!!

Here's a simplified version of my first attempt.....:

Thanks to you two for your helpful replies which I think I did reply to on this thread.

Ernest Tremaine
b. 1878 (approx)
m. 1902 aged 24, Stationer's Asst to my gt-grandfather's daughter
1911 census at 100 Rosebery Ave
enlisted in army Sept 1916 aged 38
demobbed 1919 (probably enforced conscription?) aged 42
then lived at Brookdale Rd of which I have no knowledge
d. not sure...awaiting cert from GRO before I comment further

Other 1911 census shows my gt-grandfather living at 100 Rosebery Ave with wife and kids (died there in 1913)

His brother lived at 12 Maismore Rd at the time of his death in 1913 (Ernest's demob papers could be a mis-spelling)

End of double-typing.....
