Mary White b. abt 1852 Ireland father Jarvis White father. Can be found in Nottingham 1871 census. I am unable to get anything else on Mary or in fact Jarvis White prior to his marriage of Rhoda Jane Merrett.
My mother Granddaughter of Jarvis White always spoke of an Irish connection. She said her grandmother was from County Cork, Ireland. Mother Beatrice Bell had the nickname of Pat because of the Irish connection.

Tracing the Irish can be very frustrating unless you know fairly accurately where they came from.
Due to the lack of surviving government records you rely a lot on the very good, but mostly unindexed, Parish records.
If you can narrow down their parish then it is worth paying an Irish genealogist to chase them up for you.
Just knowing the county does not do much good. For instance, when looking for Mary Murphy born about 1894 in County Cork in the 1911 Irish Census I got over 240 hits
I also find them changing their place and year of birth quite often in the English census up until about 1901 when most seemed happy to admit to their Irish heritage.
It is also very hard to find when they entered England as the shipping records are none existent.

Re: Mary White
Hi thanks for that. I should have made a posting. I was able to get that link in and have located her baptism in Co. Offaly and the marriage of the father in Dublin. Also picked up a living relative the we did not know that we had. I guess I was just lucky on this one.
Can't just blame the Irish there is still plenty of holes in the English records that I have found out.
