Now I don't want to divert everybodies' attention away from finding my Henrietta Tooth in 1901 :wink: but wondered if anyone could find out about Thomas George. I have recently become the proud owner of an old Staffordshire Puzzle Jug.

In big gold letters are written Thomas George Three Crowns Hill Top West Bromwhich March 21st 1856

Is this a birthday/marriage day/day he bought a pub/day a battle was won?

There are two transfer prints -one on either side- the first depicts "Charge of the Chausseurs D'Afrique at Balaclava"

The second is of "Charge of the Scots Greys at Balaclava"

I am guessing these were more successful than the Charge of the Light Brigade and perhaps worthy of commemorative celebration jugs?

I have been told the pub has been gone since the early 1970's and served a foundry close to it.

The Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons.)

Raised in 1678, under the name of Royal regiment of Scots Dragoons changed to 2nd Royal North British Dragoons in 1751. The regiment took part in many campaigns, In 1701 to 1705 In The war of the Spanish Succession. at the battles of Blenheim, Ramillies, Oudenarde and Malplaquet. and at Dettingen during the War of Austrian Succession. During the Seven years war (1756 - 1763,) they were at the Battle of Warbung. French revolutionary Wars, they served at Willems. The most famous of all there Battles was 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo (where many of the prints available are about). During the Crimean war they served with distinction at the Battle of Balaclava and again at Sevastopol. During the Boer wars they were at the relief of Kimberley and Paardeburg. During the First World war the regiment in 1914 took part in the retreat from Mons, Marne, Aisne Ypres. and during 1915,at Arras, 1917, saw them again at Amiens, Somme. while during 1918 they took part in the campaigns, on the Hindenburg Line, Pursuit to Mons, During World war two, they saw action at Hill 112, Falaise, Hochwald, Aller, bremen, Merjayun. Alamel Halfa, El Alamein, Nofilia and in Italy at Salerno

Hi Thanks for the regiment info - they seem to have a very proud history.

No I nothing at all about him. I am guessing he was Pub owner? Maybe significant customer home from battle?

Oh Yes- sorry I forgot - I had already seen that but not digested the dates. Wonder if he was back from battle then? Or would he just have been awarded the jug to celebrate National heros of the day.

Well done you-that answers that one. So he did run the pub after all.

I wonder what the significance of the date is-could it be his 50th birthday?

That would give him a dob 21st March 1806 Bilston
