Hello from a new member

Post by KenWW »

Hello, Everyone.

I am a retired local government officer living in rural West Sussex and have only recently joined this Forum. Surprisingly, given that I started researching my family history way back in 1992, I had not previously hard of the Forum! My attention was drawn to it by a newly "found" distant cousin - we haven't yet worked our exact relationship, but it appears that our mutual ancestors are 18th ones living in what was then a very rural area to the north-east of Halesowen "proper", nowadays, though, it is part of the West Midlands conurbation. In view of this my newly found cousin thought that, given the Forum's Black Country "section", I would probably find the Forum interesting and helpful. So, here I am!

Most of my other ancestors were from Hampshire (Portsmouth / Gosport), Gloucestershire (Dursley / Painswick / Rodborough), and Shropshire (mainly the part that is now Telford New Town). My paternal grandmother, though, was a descendant of the Cutler / Dearn(e) / Partridge families, who used to live in the Cakemore / Quinton / Warley "neck of the woods". She was born there but subsequently moved into Birmingham. That is where I should have been born but wasn't because of Second World War evacuation. That and how I came to have lived in Sussex for most of my life is a long story, with which I won't bore you!

Looking forward to "meeting" more "new" cousins!
Ken Wilson-Wheeler.

Hi Ken, welcome.

We have 2 Cutler/Dearn marriages on BCC - Thomas Cutler 1769-1769 to Mary Dearne and Thomas Cutler abt 1766 to Nancy Dearne.

We haven't connected the 2 couples, but surely there is a connection?
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

You are entering the nightmare world of Parallel Cutler families in Halesowen.....especially the Dearne marriages.

I gave up trying to sort them out a while ago...before I went stark raving mad.

No two trees agree on these families and most are certain they have it right but can't provide me with sufficient proof.

I might just tackle them again.....

Oh, and welcome to another Cutler relative. Seems to be quite a few on this forum....
