I get confused over DNA :? but I had my MTDNA done. I went with SM something, cant think now
Ill find out.
i should really have done my sons if I had thought about it.
It was free though and the results get put on a site but you have to give 4 or 5 generations of family.
Ill find out more and post what I did
I think the cost can vary quite a bit. Have you looked on Ancestrys DNA?
Jo :)

You would need a male descendent of William (via the male line only) and then compare that to the Smart line. Do you have a victim for that?

I found this thread very interesting, because .............

In 2002 we were contacted by a member of the Parsons family (who I had 'met' on the web) who was anxious to prove the lineage of the family as far back as he could and particularly to -

Tidal Littley alias Parsons (1749-1812) who was the common ancestor.

He had had contact with another guy from a different branch of the family and wondered whether my husband would be willing to have a Y-line test. The upshot was that the three of them contacted Oxford Ancestors, were sent the cheek cell sampling brush etc. plus instructions. Samples taken and sent off to Oxford.
The results were eventually returned together with a DNA certificate detailing the Y-line code.

Amazing to think that when all the results were compared, they were identical. Which not only confirmed that our Family Trees were correct but covered seven generations. The cost was (then) £150 but we didn't have to pay, the instigator paid!

I've just checked on the paperwork (from 2002) and the cost appears to be the same for the MatriLine test.
