Re: TWINS?
There is also this Isaac Ormerod in 1871 who given the discrepancies found in ages could be the apparent twin of James

Isaac Births held at Burnley
1856 ORMEROD Isaac Burnley Preston BU/40/52
1856 ORMEROD Isaac Colne Preston COL/30/52
James Births held at Burnley
1854 ORMEROD James Burnley Preston BU/35/52
1856 ORMEROD James Burnley Preston BU/39/98
1858 ORMEROD James Padiham Preston PA/13/48
Looking at that lot and the ages on the census the only thing I can conclude is that they didn't keep track of when the children were born and how old they were

My gut reaction is no -- I think the above were probably the two brothers.
I am basing this on the fact that while they may have got ages of children wrong they would have remembered if they had been twins and would have therefore put their ages as the same even if they were wrong -- imagine the arguments in the household if they had not! Children then were probably just as keen as they are these days to preserve the differences at that stage! Also the more I thik about it the more the references go with the pages that the births are registered and I doubt that twins would be registered that far apart. The only way to know for sure is to see the birth certificates or wait until Lancashire BMD adds more mother's surnames!!

Re: TWINS?
thanks very much , i think you're right , i need to get the birth certificates to be absolutely sure , james ormerod has been a bit of hard work because james and ormerod were very popular names at that time in lancashire

Yes they are popular in that area -- I have never heard of Ormorod until tonight -- but there are certainly lots up there in Lancashire at that time

Re: TWINS?
Also having cousins can be a night mare. You have to get the birth certs to be really sure.
Sometimes two cousins with the same surname were born days apart in the same village even and registered the same day or within days of each other.
