Hi
Can't seem to find a few of my male ancestors in the 1881 census - have a feeling they may have been serving the mother country out in India.
AZre there any places to check to see if this is the case ?

Hi
If you could move it to the military section it would be much appreciated.
Doug
PS I'll try the IGI as well.

Hi,
I recommend you check the National Archive website because if they did serve in the military you should find their military service records in their catalogue but most of the records are not available to view fully online so I'm afraid you would have to pay someone to visit or request copies direct (fee payable).
www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
The FIBIS website would also be worth checking because it also has a searchable database of records (including military) of persons who lived there during the Raj.
www.fibis.org
Good luck.
Kind regards
Adrian
