*Arc tbc* ---James Nock (b. 1775)

Post by chrisb »

My 4Xg-grandfather was James Nock, born around 1776. He married a Hannah Purton (or Parton) on 20 May 1805. I am interested in contacting anyone who is working backwords from James or Hannah. Two heads are definitely better than one!

In the 1851 census, Hannah is recorded as living with an unmarried daughter-in-law (how is this possible?) Mary. Although both Ancestry and the Black Country website list Mary's surname as Parton, I believe from perusal of the original census image that it should be Purton. Hence I think that James married a Hannah Purton, not Parton. I would also appreciate a second opinion on this.

Census used 'daughter in law' to describe a 'stepdaughter' as well as the wife of a son. Marriage is in 1805, Mary's birth about 1803. Was Mary Hannah's stepdaughter from a previous marriage? Or an Illegitimate child? So, possibly Hannah's maiden name was not Purton/Parton?
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

Not sure if we can add any of this
if we can and someone would like to do it that would be great
save wasting any of the census info

I think she is a widow if we don't have that marriage down if some kind soul would add it that
would be great see if she is a widow when she marries

1851 Census
Rowley Regis
Hannah Nock, W, 83, Halesowen
Mary Purton, daur in law, 48, Propieter of houses, Rowley
Henry Skidmore, grand son, 20, Nail Iron Manager ? Kingswinford
Elizabeth Holding, serv, 19, House Servant, Halesowen
Elizabeth Tromans, serv, 15, House Servant, Rowley

I wonder if Henry Skidmore may hold a clue?
Possible him in
1841 Census
Cradley Bridge to Five Ways
Eliza Skidmore, 30, Ind
Henry, 10,
James, 9,
Eliza, 7,
Mary Hulston, 20, FS, not born County
All others born County

A William Hulston appears as a witness to marriage, may be some connection??
