Phoebe Quinney was born in 1840 Foleshill Warwickshire

I can find her on all the census except 1871 can any one help spot how it has been transcribed?

1841Phene Quinney with parents Elijah and Caroline(Catherine on all other census!) and siblings
1851Phenius Quinney with parents
1861Phebe Quinney
1871 Where is Phoebe???? Elijah appears to be in workhouse and Catherine is servant
1881 Pheney Quinney with mother and son Herbert b 1878
1891 Pehene Quinney with son "Henry" b 1878
1901 Pheney Quinney with Herbert and family described as "aunt"
1911 Pheney Quinney with Herbert and family now "mother"

The family rumour was that she was a servant at Packington Hall and a visitor was the father of Herbert - is that where she is in 1871? I can't find Packington Hall on a census to try from that direction as she obviously was not good at spelling her name. She is always recorded as Single

Ancestry has really struggled with transcribing the surname but Find my Past has had more success except 1871!!!

Any bright ideas appreciated

Thank you for this Jo - are you supremely knowledgeable or do you have the descriptions of the enumeration districts? - Otherwise thank you for trawling through to find this reference.

sadly that rumour hasn't helped - either she wasn't there at all or it not during 1871 census!

back to thinking how badly Phoebe Quinney could be heard/written/transcribed --having said that her employers could have been the sort that insisted she changed her name while employed so they didn't have to remember new names / felt Phoebe was too heathen!!

I wish!
I looked on 1881 and used Packington in the address, then took the enumerators discription, on ancestry, to find it in 1871. I did look on the other in Warwickshire that Jimmy found but couldnt see it. The area is in Coleshill, I did look through each page but couldnt see the actual place. If you look on ancestry and on the 1871 census, just put in Warwickshire for county, then Coleshill, I think its in the district 4. I didnt see her when I looked through but may well of missed her!

No I couldn't see her either - I think this might have to go on the back burner until I get some more inspiration.

Thank you for trying

Being local, I have been to both Packington Halls, one is the Stately Home Warwickshire, the other is a much smaller affair, now just a Farm House, it is where the famous 'Packington Porker Pigs' are bread, and next door to Whittington Barracks Lichfield. HTH from Linell.

The one that was mentioned was near Meriden I think - does that narrow it down?
