UPDATE look up for Mary ann!-Help with Gill/Parkes Marriages

Post by maryann »

Jan has done a look-up for me on a Sarah Gill (who I believe is the daughter of Joseph and Esther Bloomer Gil) who married A William Parkes 9 Apr 1833, Old Swinford. The are listed on the 1841 Old Swinford census:
William Parkes age 30 Nailer
Sarah Parkes age 30
Stephen age 6
Eleanor age 5
Daniel age 1

Sarah's sister, Elizabeth Gill married a William Parkes 17 Mar 1839 St. Thomas Dudley. They too are listed on the 1841 Cradley census:
William Parkes age 20 Bricklayer
Elizabeth Parkes age 20
Ann Parkes age 7 mos.
In a Will dated 1842 of William Bloomer, Sarah and Elizabeth's uncle, he mentions a niece Sarah Parkes and good friend William Parkes. I feel this Sarah Gill is the right sister, but what is the likely hood of 2 sisters marring a William Parkes?? I don't know how to prove this Sarah Gill is the daughter of Joseph & Esther Gill all on BCC. Help Please

I think Sarah Parkes re-married in 1852:-

COOPER John PARKES Sarah Quarry Bank, Christ Church Dudley Register Office 016/001/36

I found her on the 1861 in Cradley with husband John Cooper and Stepson Daniel and a Sarah, will find the image and post it. If this is Sarah nee Gill, this Marriage would give her Father's name.

105 EAST SIDE CRADLEY
JOHN COOPER Head Married 58 yrs Nailer born Old Swinford
SARAH COOPER Wife Married 50 yrs Nailer born Cradley
DANIEL PARKS Stepson Unmarried 20 yrs Old Swinford
SARAH PARKS Stepdaughter 12 yrs Old Swinford

I think you are right Mary Ann, especially with the Daniel (Gill) name.

Will have a look for the children's Baptism's.

The witnesses on Elizabeth Gill were Daniel Gill & Appleby? The witness on Sarah did not help , cant find any connection, but I think it was Jane Perrin, as she is listed on the 1851 census with Sarah as a visitor, and Sarah is widowed with 2 additional children. On the 1861 census I find a Sarah Parke age 48 with 1 daughter Sarah age 11, but it is possible as linell states she remarried.

I found the Baptism for Stephen on the IGI:-

Stephen Thomas Parkes Baptised Old Swinford 22.12.1833 Old Swinford to Wm and Sarah Parkes.

That ties in well with the April Marriage in 1833.

linell, on the 1851 census there is a John Cooper & Elizabeth with family that has a Daniel 8 and William 4, listed just above Sarah Parkes family. So maybe Elizabeth died and Sarah married John Cooper. She must be the Sarah Gill of Joseph & Esther Gill. I can't believe how quickly you figure this out? Thanks

Yes, you certainly did teach her well. Do you think I should request a look on the Cooper-Parkes marriage to be sure, or go ahead and update Sarah on BCC? This looks pretty conclusive to me.

Ok Mary Ann your look up has been done on this

Sarah Gills father is Joseph Gill

I have added William Parkes and that first marriage
but the kids from that marriage need adding

then the kids from the second marriage
and his first wife if it was Elizabeth

plus any other details of relevance from this thread save wasting it

also if you connect can you rite at the top of the notes add

Connects to:-
mary Ann

then Linells name can come underneath as she connects too
so we know as soon as we see the notes who it connects to
trying to get everyone to inpu the same way and add that they connect at top on relevant ones
to get that break you do this
Connects to:-
mary Ann
Linell

ok here is link
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... =870595015

if you could add the revised link when updated that would be great then we can archive this
