*Arc tbc* --Brown family of Dudley

Post by apowell »

Hi everyone,

I have found my x2 Grt Grandmother Sarah Ann Brown born abt 1839, Dudley on the 1841 & 1851 census.

1841 census
William Brown born abt 1816, in County, Nailor
Mary Ann Brown born abt 1821, in County
Sarah Brown born abt 1839, in County
William Mansell born 1840, in County
next door is Joseph Mansell born abt 1825, in County, Nailor

1851 census
William Brown born abt 1816, Dudley, Nailor
Mary Ann Brown born abt 1819, Dudley
Sarah Ann Brown born abt 1839, Dudley
Joseph Mansell born abt 1824, Dudley, Nailor (Relation)

On the 1861 census we find in the household a Sarah Wild born abt 1801, Dudley, (Married) stated as Mary Ann Brown's mother.

I then attempted to find out the following:

1. A marriage entry for William Brown & Mary Ann Wild around 1837-1839.
2. A Sarah Wild born abt 1801, Dudley entry on the 1841 and 1851 census.
3. A connection with the Brown or Wild family to William or Joseph Mansell who was living with the Browns on the 1841 & 1851 census.
4. Birth entries for William Brown abt 1816 and Mary Ann Wild abt 1820 in the Dudley area.

I can say I've failed miserably on finding any of the above

Anyone able to help :P

Kind regards
Adrian

Hi Peter,

I'd never thought of the second marriage and it does make sense.

I'm wondering if anyone has any information on their daughter Sarah Ann Brown born abt 1839 Dudley and the maiden name of her mother. I've searched the IGI but couldn't find an entry that matched.

Thanks Peter.

Hi Peter,

I think I've worked out the question why the mothers name was Sarah Wild on the 1861 census.

I think the surname of Sarah Ann Brown's mother was Stafford which corresponds with the marriage entry you mentioned. I've found a birth entry for Mary Ann Stafford Bap' 27 Dec 1818 St Thomas church, Dudley and it only lists the mothers name Sarah Stafford. I then tracked down Sarah Stafford's Bap' 20 Oct 1799 St Thomas church, Dudley so it seems to me that Sarah's daughter Mary was born out of wedlock.

All the births and marriages seem to have a common link with Dudley and St Thomas church.

I will order the birth certificate of Sarah Ann Brown to confirm her mothers maiden name.
