Benjamin Wood was one of 22 children. He was the son of Benjamin Wood and his second wife Emma Louisa. He was born in Kinver, Staffordshire abt 1890. He died during WW1 on 28th May 1917 in Flanders. He features in a book of the fallen from Langley, Worcestershire. It states:

Lance Corporal Benjamin Wood was employed at Brades Steel Works before the war, and was a member of the Oldbury Terriorials. He mobillised at the start of the war in the Worcestershire regiment (1935), before transfering to the Heavy Branch of the Machine Gun Corps, the forerunner of the Tanks Corps. He had been wounded twice, and twice had suffered shell shock. He was killed in a tragic accident, being run over by a train. He was the husband of Ann Wood of 5 Popes Lane, Oldbury, and they had one child.

I have been unable to get a copy of either articles featured in the Oldbury Weekly News as it is being transfered to Mircofilm for Sandwell Archives. I have also been unable to find any details of his marriage to Ann or the birth of their child.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can solve these issues?

no idea when maggie / margaret was born ? as cannot find any after 1911 for black country area ?

According to several Ancestry trees...

He married an Ann Dean (Annie E Dearn) in the 3rd quarter on 1914 in Kings Norton.

Marriages Sep 1914
WOOD Benjamin Dearn Kings N. 6d 234
Dearn Annie E Wood Kings N. 6d 234

There are three Wood children with a Dearn mother born in that period in West Brom (which covers Oldbury).

Which "one", if not all, are his I do not know.

Births Dec 1912
WOOD Maggie Dearn W.Bromwich 6b 1562

Births Dec 1914
WOOD Frederick Dearn W. Bromwich 6b 1517

Births Mar 1915
Wood Vera M Dearn W.Bromwich 6b 1668

There are photo's of his grave and a memorial on Ancestry if you have access.

His father was a busy man wasn't he!

First child in 1872 and last in 1914.

Kings Norton Registration now comes under Birmingham, it did cover Northfield, Frankley, Harborne, Edgbaston.

I did find out from an article in the Oldbury Weekly News dated from June 1917 that Annie had two brothers that were in the army Called George and Joseph. Unfortunately I can't find the three of them in any census. I don't have any DOB or place of birth for any of them
