Thomas PRICE, b1845 Worthen, Shropshire

Post by ChrisR »

I'm tracing back my family tree and this is on my maternal grandfathers side.

I have traced back to a Thomas PRICE who was a farmer with 80 Acres and 1 Labourer, married to Sarah ? from Middleton, Montgomeryshire, Wales.

I can't find any reference to Thomas PRICE before the 1871 census on ancestry.co.uk (well there are lots of people with that name, but none born in Worthen) - does anyone have any pointers on what to try next?

Thanks in advance

Chris

Thanks for the reply Peter - the 1881 Census is the one I have saved so the details match.

Not sure about the other information you have found - the year of birth seems to be 4 years out for Thomas PRICE.

Did you do a search for births matching the name?

Are you still looking at this or has it been moved.
As a check on ages the 1891 census shows Thomas as being 46 and Sarah 44

Here's an interesting one from the 1871 census, age is a bit young but......
Thomas Price, 22, b. Worthen, boarder, living with a family of Lewis
Class: RG10; Piece: 5622; Folio: 41; Page: 16
Is Petrd post above the right family as I've found another similar but the age of Thomas is slightly different.
Also could the town of Worthen have been Worthin in 1851

Could this be him using Westbury from 1901 in
1871 Census
Haywood farm, Westbury,
William Price, head, 45, Farmer of 218 acres employing 1 labourer and 1 boy, Westbury
Margaret, wife, 44, Kinnerley
Thomas, son, 27, Westbury
William, son, 17, Alberbury
Eliza, daur, 22, Westbury
Humphrey Howells, serv, 30, farm serv, Alberbury
John Pugh, serv, 13, farm serv, Pontesbury(?)

In the enumerator description it says,
"All that part of the Parish of Westbury from the village of Westbury on the west side the turnpike road leading to Worthen"
