Well done Maths girl you have cracked it! Henry is William Henry younger not older brother of Joseph ( by 1yr) who married Mary Ann Grove. She was jilted, and she was 10yrs older than William and 9 yrs older than Joseph - even so William still went for an older wife. Did they get married because on census did it say own account for Hannah. Mallosa do you think the marriage you found could be right, how can we find out? She may be Hannah Haden poss daughter of the lodgers? There is on BMD a Hannah Haden in Manchester married a William Stringer too.

STRINGER William CHAMBERS Hannah Blackheath, St Paul 012/002/314

Soz Mallosa, I have made a mistake there I thought I had found a maariage but it was a birth, so probably isn't anything to do with this lot. St Pauls sounds good though its within a few miles of where the stringers were in all the censuses. Do you think we could have a look up?

I have added it to look ups for you DB :-)

For future reference, go to the Home Page
and scroll down to 'Census, Civil & Parish Registration'
then click on 'Lookup Requests'
go into 'DUDLEY & SMETHWICK Archives-POST YOUR LOOK UPS HERE!!'

and then add your request at the bottom as I have done ...here

You'll probably have to wait a while though cos both archives are closing for a short time for stocktaking

dumblonde wrote:Thanks everyone. It looks like John Stringer jnr who is an iron miner in 1851 is my John, and Thomas living in Lomey Town is his brother, Edward living in Chaddesley Corbett is his other brother. John was an iron miner in 1861 census. I have put this on BCC, but I have put Ann Maria Smith as his wife, not Maria Pearsall, Linnells relation. I could do with a look up to see which Maria was his wife and who the father was on the marriage cert.

Another problem I have is that there is a family story that John jnr (born abt 1824 or 1829) had a son called Henry. I can't find him (he is supposed to have jilted Mary Ann Grove 1859 - 1942) she then married his younger brother Joseph ,1868 - 1902. I really would like to find out of this mysterious Henry. He is not on the censuses with the other children. Thanks to you I now have 1841, 1851 1861 1871 1881for John jnr.
The story is that after jilting Mary Ann Henry went to Mansfield, he had a child called Lois who married John Massey. I don't know who Henry married but have found that Lois was born Dudley 'Mar' 1893 and she married John Massey in Mansfield 'Sep' 1914
Sorry if this sounds a bit garbled.

I take it that this is your John DB? ...here

If so the marriage look up that Jan did isn't for the same John cos she says his father was Joseph :?

Thanks for the Look Up NL. The Witnesses confirm it is the right family, Eliza Stringer was John's sister and James Woodhouse Married sister Mariah Stringer. Please note there are now two spellings of Pearsall/ Persell on BCC. Linell.

Ok so this can now be archived unless anyone wishes to run any more will flag...

I will leave the 2 spellings on as Pearsall and Persell as distinct enough to merit.

Thanks for Look up Northern lass. John Stringer senior was dead by the time that John junior married, I have a copy of his burial record. It says he lived at Belbroughton at time of death but was buried at Chaddesley Corbett, he was 56.
