Greetings from sunny Queensland

Post by Pudsey to Howard »

Please allow me to introduce myself: I'm Doug and I've been hooked on genealogy for the last five years - I've tried a few times to walk away from it but it keeps drawing me back in.

I'm originally from Pudsey and went through most of my life believing that all my roots were from "oop north" - how wrong could I be!

My dad's side of the family, mainly, come from North Yorkshire, Durham & Northumberland; but the parent of his grandmother, Eliza Tunnicliffe, moved from Staffordshire to North Yorkshire in the 1870s. On the Tunnicliffe side of things I have the Allcock's who were from Bilston.

My mum's side has really strong ties to the Black Country through my grandmother's family the Dimmocks who I've linked to the following: Johnson; Fudge; Yardley; Stephens; Heathcock; Southall/Southill; Walker; Rose; & Brooks.

Any way enough about me, how are you?

Doug

Hi Doug,
Welcome. Glad you found us. I've Black Country roots myself, and Northern Lass will be along as soon as she wakes up to tell you all about our Black Country section.

You'll find us a helpful bunch. So don't hesitate to whack us into your brick walls if you have any.

Howard, eh? My mum's at Hervey Bay. Not too far away. I'm in Melbourne - so we are both considered to be on the "night shift" here.
Cheers,
Di

Welcome Doug

Genealogy is compulsive and never lets you go so you might as well give in and go with the flow.

Moves between Black Country and the North East seem to have been reasonably frequent - I have some and I know others have too

Happy Hunting

Hi Doug Welcome to the forum!

Ok now we have a dedicated Black Country Section, if you just scroll down the main board,
so any queries concerning that area do post in there.

Quite a few of us are involved in this ever growing Black Country Connections Tree,
and you know about that already

For any other queries then do post in the General Discussion area and of course any other
sections that catch your eye!

Good to have you on board

Hi

Thanks one and all for your warm reception.

I was amazed someone knew where Howard was - good on you Di - my parents also live in the whale watching capital of the world!
