Hi from Annabelle

Post by annabelle »

I am researching my grandmother called Nellie (Ellen) Turner who married John Garvey Turner in Birmingham in 1922 (maiden name Matthews, previously Wilson). I have traced my grandfather John Garvey Turner who died in 1951, but cannot find any trace of Nellie. My father said he was told when he was a young boy that his mother (Nellie) had died, but has always doubted it, maybe she left home etc. I can find no trace of a death for Nellie (Ellen) at all, so wonder if maybe she re-married or changed her name before she died. I need help as I have hit a brick wall on this.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I promised my Dad before he died that I would find out what really happened to his mother. He was told she had died but does not remember any funeral etc. I have tried to find her death going right up to the 1950's, (she was supposed to have died around 1927). I have found many Nellie (or Ellen) Turner deaths, but none of them have been her as the husband on the death certificate is a different Mr Turner. My grandfather was a Blacksmith by trade. I do not know if she re-married, went into a Mental Hospital, or just "left" and changed her name. She is on the electoral roll at an address in Birmingham right up to 1930, but cannot find any trace of either grandparent until finding grandfather in 1944. Nellie had two sons, my father called John and another son called William Eric who was killed in 1944. I am totally stumped and do not know where to go next.

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.
