Best search site / system / facility - which one?

Post by cardiganuk »

Hi,

I've got some certificates and I've got pieces of info and I think I am now at the stage of needing to pay a subscrition for access to census records etc. All my ancestry is in the UK, primarily England and Scotland with some Irish but I don't have mich to go on with the Irish connection. I'd like to pay for something 1 monytj fort access to everything rather than 1 year for access to half of everything. For example I'd like to be able to search not only census records but knowing the address, find out who was living there at a certain time. So the question is - which organistaion will give me what I want for the least cost?

If you want the best search capabilities and most accurate transcriptions then TheGenealogist is the best.

It also has by far the best non-conformist records.

Recently they released a fully indexed overseas BMD which has solved a whole heap of brick walls for me.

They have most of the directories fully indexed as well.

I think you can search for an address on find my past not sure as I dont have that one
so can you do that on FMP anyone?
and they have the 1911 census

you can search on ancestry via the enumerators notes for an area and then if you have an idea of where the address is
from finding it on another census - then you can sort of find the address but it is a pain.
Archives may have street indexes for some areas
Electoral registers at archives or councils will show you who is living there

but as for an online search an address, unless anyone knows how to do it on Ancestry other than the enumerators notes
let us know

I think you can only use street address on 1881 on Ancestry.

that is true but you can also search the enumerators notes on a district

eg
go to 1901 census
scroll down to county
select Worcs
select Parish Dudley
then you can view enumerators notes or view a district if you have an idea from a prev
census which district your address comes under.

I have used this and it works but it is really time consuming :(

I finally subscribed to FMP and yes you can search for an address. And the 1911 census is on there too.
