by whickham boy » Sun Oct 25, 2009 7:58 pm
i am looking for information on the marriage of EDWARD SOUTHWICK (baptised: 22 Oct 1769, Halesowen, Worcs)
He married MARY ? somewhere around 1780-90? They had 2 children JOSEPH (25.12.1798) and EDWIN (21.9.1806)
If anyone is looking for any information on the SOUTHWICK family i have quite a lot of information
which might or might not be useful.

Re: SOUTHWICK FAMILY HISTORY
The Cradley Register has:-
25.12.1798 Joseph son of Edward and Mary Southwick
27.9.1801 John son of Wm and Elizabeth Southwick
14.10.1804 John son of John and Nancy Southwick
28.10.1804 Charles son of Wm and Elizabeth
20.4.1806 Mary d of John and Nancy Southwick
21.9.1806 Edwin son of Edward and Mary Southwick
29.8.1807 Mary d of Wm and Elizabeth Southwick
22.5.1810 Wm son of John and Nancy Southwick
1.7.1810 Edward son of Wm and Elizabeth Southwick
Looks like Edward, William and John were all brothers, probably one family?
There are a lot more later baptisms, none for Edward and Mary.
A Grace Southwick aged 80 was Buried 8.3.1820
John Southwick was a Land Owner in the Cradley 1782 Enclosure Book
John and Grace above must have been Edward's Parents?
The Cradley Vicar's Notes for 1857 has Joseph Southwick a Widower, Shoemaker, No Church (which usually means not C of E) Living on the Stourbridge Road Cradley. Son Benjamin 30 Puddler No Church, Lucy 25 Dressmaker Church Seldom, Joseph Chainmaker professes Church but goes to Unitarian to please his Master and Company.
Rueben son of Joseph is living in New Street works at Corngreaves Iron Works, attends Chapel, promises to visit Church soon, Wife Matilda No Church daughter of Noah and Sarah Homer, Daughter Ann Matilda 4 attends Wesleyan Sunday School, William 3 attends Wesleyan Sunday School, Thomas 2 and George a baby.
In Butchers Lane again 1857 is Widow Elizabeth Southwick aged 87, was Church, now ill, decent, son John 56 Nailer.

Re: SOUTHWICK FAMILY HISTORY
Oh well done there Pete. So you have got back another generation
I didn't find anything for Edward and Mary but did find the following of interest:-
Witnesses to the Marriage of John and Grace were Thomas Richards and the Churchwarden Joseph Chandler.
11.4.1814 Halesowen
William Mascall (should be Mansell I think) and Sarah Southwick. Witnesses were Edward Southwick and John Walker.
So where does Sarah fit in

Re: SOUTHWICK FAMILY HISTORY
Hi Linell
Thanks for your efforts, you have GRACE SOUTHWICK buried 8.3.1820, i have her LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT which states she died on 1.9.1820 a widow.
She fell out with her son JOHN (one of her 8 children) and left him a shilling. I have got as far back as WILLIAM SOUTHWICK (1678) & MARY BUTLER (1672)
plus children. Possibly further, but still searching. The only sticking point is EDWARD SOUTHWICK & MARY ? What is her surname and when did they get married. I have quite a lot of information on the SOUTHWICK family, some related to me, some not.
