Story has it that was told to me by my great aunt that a member of my Williamson ancestors had a farm in Featherston yorkshire, now she was born in 1916 so i dont think the time line would be far out from that if she could remember it .. also im not the only decendant who has heard about this farm, so where would i go to find this farm? how would i find it?

probably find out that it was a alotment or something but would be good to know :)

Thanks Diane

might try the phone directories they might go back that far if not the electoral role will have them on for sure as they would be land owners

I went looking for Williamsons in Featherstone, Yorkshire in the census to see if I could find any with farms.

Didn't have much luck at first, then I came across this:
1851 Aketon, Featherstone
William Parkinson Head 46 Farmer of 13 Acres b. Aketon
Priscilla Parkinson Wife 40 b. Pontefract Park
Elizabeth Parkinson Daur 14 b. Aketon
Maria Parkinson Daur 11 b. Aketon
John Parkinson Son 7 b. Aketon
Jane Parker Niece 13 b. Castleford
Elizabeth Williamson Aunt Widow 92 Farmer's Widow b. Aketon
Lydia Gill Visitor 60 Carpenter's Widow b. Purstone Gaglin, Yorkshire

Here is Elizabeth in 1841:
At Ackton, Featherstone, Yorkshire
John Williamson 80 Farmer
Elizabeth Williamson 80
John Parkinson 20 M.S.
Mary Scholey 20 F.S.
All born in county

There are a few other Williamsons in Featherstone down the years, but they mostly seem to be coal miners.
Although, I did find one Gawen??? Williamson, a butler at Featherstone Castle in 1851.
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.
