Hi Steve,

This is what I've got which maybe your William and family:

parents
Father: ? ( why no fathers name)
Mother: Hannah Tolley
William Tolley Christening: 23 SEP 1821 Upton Warren, Worcester
Ann Tolley Christening: 17 NOV 1830 Upton Warren, Worcester
John Tolley Christening: 24 NOV 1824 Upton Warren, Worcester

Parents
Father: William Tolly
Mother: Hannah
Hannah Tolley Christening: 27 APR 1800 Upton Warren, Worcester
William Tolley Christening: 22 JUN 1806 Halesowen, Worcester (interesting)

There is another possible birth for William

William Tolley Christening: 01 JUN 1821 St Andrew, Droitwich, Worcester

What do you think Steve.

I'm sure other people will be able to expand further for you Steve because I'm not sure where we go from here and why isn't a father listed on the IGI? The IGI isn't my strong point :P

Regards
Adrian

WOW!!!

I go to bed for a few hours, then to work for a few more, log onto here and find you possibly know more about my family than I do  The Benjamin bit was passd to me by my younger brother (blame the kids!!!) but I suppose it's my own fault for not checking myself. I'm not sure that he still has a copy of his results from his searches, I'll ask him over the weekend if I see him and cross reference with what you have added here; plenty to ponder.

OK, I couldn't wait, I telephoned him. He said that he got the info off the LDS 1881 Census records, I looked it up and found the following:

William TOLLEY Head M Male 59 Tipton General Labourer
Mary TOLLEY Wife M Female 44 Tipton
Benj. TOLLEY Son Male 11 Tipton Scholar (I'm Guessing this is Benjamin)
Mark TOLLEY Son Male 9 Tipton Scholar

Census shows they lived at No3 Eagle Passage Court, Tipton, which according to Google maps no longer exists.

Also in the 1881 census is a Emma Hollis aged 15, working as a domestic servant with an address at 34 Lower Church Lane, I cannot find a Benjamin Hollis in the area. The only other Emma in the area is living with her hubby and Kids in Sedgley :?:

An awful lot appears to happen in 10 years. :?

Hi Steve,

This is getting very very odd because I've found this which makes some sense to me but not all of it

1861 census
Eagle House, Tipton, Staffordshire
William Tolley born 1822 Upton Warren, Worcestershire (Labourer)
Elizabeth Tolley born 1822 Tipton, Staffordshire (wife)
Dinah Tolley born 1848 Stoke Prior, Worcestershire (daughter)
Benjamin Hollis born 1849 Tipton, Staffordshire (son)
Louisa Tolley born 1856 Tipton, Staffordshireshire (daughter)
Sarah Tolley born 1857 Tipton, Staffordshire (daughter)
Alice Tolley born 1861 Tipton, Staffordshire (daughter)

I'm know sure this must be your William and he was born in Upton Warren, Worcestershire because the Hollis connections there again and the information about William fits perfect with your William. I'm thinking William was Married to Elizabeth who may have died between 1861-1871 because she doesn't appear on the 1871 census with William and just looking it states William was a widow. Sarah Tolley and Ellen L (must be that Louisa) are with him and I'm thinking that Emma Hollis who married William Tolley in 1875 must have been the William born in 1822 because they have a son called William born 1862 another born out of wedlock.

The 1881 census makes no sense at all because William's wife is Mary? My Lord what was going on in the family

What do you think :o

Hi again,

I've just searched the marriage entries for Staffordshire and found this:

William Tolley married Mary Davies 1880 West Bromwich, Staffordshire.

Is it possible Emma died between 1871-1881 and William remarried again :?

Just a idea but it's possible because I checked the death entries and found this:

Emma Tolley born abt 1847 died Mar 1877 District Dudley (Tipton was under Dudley district)

Regards
Adrian

This is complex with a captial "C".

Everything you have said (Adrian) can be confirmed in the BMD records (except Benjamins surname is spelt Hollies), but so can the 1881 census my little bro' used.

Need to make some serious investigations here.

Northern Lass, I'm not a million miles from Smethwick, but time is precious and it would take too long. There's an archive in Wolverhampton, do you think the records would be in there?

No I dont think it is at W'ton but you could always check
on their online site they have a list of holdings

I am pretty sure it is Smethwick

you can add it to the look ups but we have pages to do and as it is me that usually goes to Smethwick
dunno when I am next going

if you do want to add it you will see a post there in look up requests section there is a sticky thread at the top
