*Arc tbc* --Great Grandfather Birth Certificate

Post by moonlustie »

Hi

I'm really stuck with this, I have all the census entries throughout his life, I have his naval record and his death certificate, which all say he was born in "London, Middlesex". I have date of birth from Naval record but nothing matches on ancestry lists.

Is there a way of finding out a more detailed birthplace and therefore his birth cert?

I can't move further back because I don't have any information. I don't have the maiden name for my great grandmother either, so I'm stuck there too. I can't find their marriage certificate

Any advice would be really appreciated.

GGf: Walter WARNER b: 20 July 1852 London Middlesex (when son registered death he added middle name of Francis but no other records have that)
GGm: Elizabeth b: abt 1853 in Devonport, Devon

Thanks
Sue

For the son Walter Francis

B: abt 1875 Portland, Dorset

This is on 1881, 1891 censuses

I can't find 1901 entries but when he married in 1908 he was living in Aldrington, Hove, Sussex just up the road from the coastguard station where Walter had been posted and place of residence in 1891. When he died in 1922 he was living two streets away, so I can only guess he was in the same area. I haven't looked at 1911 yet.

By 1901 Walter had retired from Coastguard and was Caretaker at a Board/Council School, in Brighton but WF wasn't living with them - Walter died at same address in 1905.

The other three sibilings of WF were all listed as being born in Hove at the time when Walter was posted at Birling Gap, which is very very small, so they probably would have had to been registered at Hove.

Thanks again
Sue
