I'm trying to trace a birth certficate but not having much luck.
The info I have from censuses is as follows:
Helen ("Ellen") Brown:
Year of birth: approx 1851
1871 (at Karl Blind's, buddy of Karl Marx) Somerset, Milborne Port
1881 Dorsetshire (!)
1891 Somerset, Pinford
1901 Somerset, Milborne Port
1911 Dorset, Pinford
Now, she could'nt possibly have been born in two different places at the same time (according to my reckoning, that is...) so exactly in which county and town (Pinford or Milborne Port?) was she born at?
Have the county borders of Somerset/Dorset always remained the same, i.e. no boundary changes at the time?
Which offices should I try, Somerset or Dorset and what are their addresses? Would each be online to get the required reference numbers for the birth cert?
Can anybody here point me in the right direction please? Thanks.
Genealogy exploring is exciting but can be damn annoying at times!
Cheers
David

Re: Devon or Somerset Register Offices?
Hi Peterd
I've looked in
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/regoff.html#Y
and there does'nt seem to be a Register Office in Yeovil. My geography knowledge of the West Country is WC poor!
Any idea which would be the "next best" possible place?
Cheers
