*Arc tbc* ---More Groves of Halesowen

Post by dianel »

Peter has got me going on Groves of Halesowen, and while I was ferreting about, these Ancestry family trees caught my eye:

Several Ancestry Family trees have : Marriage 27 Apr 1823, Hartlebury, Worcs.
James Grove & Ann Pekes
James mother: Elizabeth Grove
Eldest son, Joseph b. 1825, Halesowen m. (Hannah) Maria Hughes

Joseph and (Hannah) Maria Hughes rang a bell, and here they are:
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/tr ... &pid=21608

So is Joseph's mum Ann Pekes?

There's an IGI submitted entry:
Joseph Grove Christened 1825, Halesowen
Parents: James Grove & Ann

Also a submitted entry:
Marriage: James Groves & Ann Pekes 27 APR 1823

I can't see extracted entries for either of these.

So looking at the census:

1841
At Islington, Halesowen
James Grove 30 In... (indecipherable) Y
Ann Grove 30 N
Joseph Grove 15 Y b. 1826 Could be the right Joseph
James Grove 10 Y
Mary Grove 8 Y
Ann Grove 5 Y
Benjamin Grove 1 Y

1851
Islington, Halesowen
The Bricklayers Arms Mention of a Bricklayer???
James Grove Head M 46 Licensed Victualler b. Worcs., Halesowen b. 1805
Anne M Wife 46 b. Worcs., Halesowen b. 1805
James Son 20 Brick layer b. Worcs., Halesowen b. 1831 m. Elizabeth
Mary Daur U 18 Dressmaker b. Worcs., Halesowen
Anne Daur U 16 House Servant b. Worcs., Halesowen
Benjamin Son 10 Scholar b. Worcs., Halesowen b. 1841 m. Martha Hadduck
Betsy Daur 7 Scholar b. Worcs., Halesowen b. 1844
Eliza Daur 5 Scholar b. Worcs., Halesowen
John Son 2 b. Worcs., Halesowen

There was another daughter to James & Ann (extracted entry):
Letitia Groves c. 26 May 1844 Halesowen
d. 16 Dec 1845
And Joseph and Maria named their first daughter Letitia

Joseph Groves married Hannah Maria Hughes 25 Dec 1845, St. Thomas, Dudley

Joseph, son of James & Ann not with that family in 1851, and here are Joseph and Maria:
1851
At Spring Hill, Hasbury, Halesowen
Joseph Grove Head Mar 25 Bricklayer b. Worcs., Halesowen
Maria Wife 26 Button Driller b. Worcs., Halesowen
William 7 Scholar b. Worcs., Halesowen
Lettisha 3 Scholar b. Worcs., Halesowen b. 1848
James 1 b. Worcs., Halesowen

1861
At Islington St., Halesowen
James Grove Head M 55 Bricklayer b. Worcs., Halesowen b. 1805 Aha! James is a Bricklayer!
Anne M Wife 55 Bricklayer's wife b. Worcs., Halesowen
Mary Daur U 27 Dressmaker b. Worcs., Halesowen
Betsy Daur 18 Household work b. Worcs., Halesowen b. 1844
Elizabeth Daur 15 Household work b. Worcs., Halesowen
John Son 11 Nailer b. Worcs., Halesowen
Martha Daur 6 Scholar b. Worcs., Halesowen
Martha Grove Daur-in-law Mar 21 b. Worcs., Halesowen wife to Benjamin
Alice Grove Granddaur 1 mo. b. Worcs., Halesowen

A bit circumstantial, but what do you think? Is this Joseph's birth family?

James mother: Elizabeth Grove?

The Marriage 27.4.1823 Halesowen is James Grove and Ann Pekes, not Perks, so obviously, a similiar name but much later couple? Linell.
