I have had several attempts at replacing Avatar....I know that the info is 80x 80 pixels and size is 6.00 KiB....every one I try with the correct pixel Measurement takes the KiB higher.......can the KiB be increased from 6.00 ?....and the pixel size.......please tell me if i am being thick.

Hi Mike,

The current limit is set to minimise bandwidth usage. The forum currently uses 1/4 Gb of data transfer per day. That's a lot in itself and allowing larger avatars would substantially increase that figure. The only alternative would be to force people to use remotely hosted avatars (which can be done at present, and helps keep our hosting bills down) or to charge for access. I don't really want to have to do either, so the current limit is the best compromise.

If you struggle to size images to the required limits, IrfanView tends to be quite useful and can be downloaded for free. If you also download the plugins pack, it gives you the option to resize to a target pixel and file size.

Dominic, That is a brilliant response from you thanks very much I will do as you suggest....it's not important but I have a few Avatar's that I find interesting to me, of early 19th cent, and Medieval illustrations that I can vary, I get bored of the same one.

Regards to you
Mike.
