(The writing on this one was appalling but I did my best - italics are a best shot!)

I couldn't find the marriage in 1871 of William Beard Brown and Ann Allen that someone on the forum found -

Mg it would be a shame to waste any of this excellent info
so do add and connect ( if it does) to the Black Country Connections tree
it will then help anyone else that visits the tree

By the time I got back Peter had been super efficient with most of the details but I don't think he got to this one but I can't remember how William Beard Brown fitted in.

I remember we thought a plain William Brown had married Margaret Allen and we thought that William Beard Brown had married an Ann Allen (the one I couldn't find!) and I believe there was a possibility that Margaret and Ann were sisters.

Wasn't it still illegal to marry a dead wife's sister then? or was that just not allowed in Church? When did civil marriages in registry offices start? There were some Walsall churches where it said the records were still with the church itself but I think I checked all the ones that were in the record centre that were open at the time of the marriage we found referenced for William Beard Brown and Ann Allen.

Can anyone else pick up the trail on this?

To be precise!
The certificate for Margaret's marriage actually states William Brown in the husbands name but is very clearly signed as William Beard Brown
