Hi I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for help!!
My father was born in the early 1940's and his birth was registered under his mother surname. He never knew his real father. He lived with his mother until she married in 1944 and was adopted by her husband when he was 4 years old.
I applied for a copy of my fathers birth certificate and it came with his adopted name instead of the name shown in the birth register.
Can anyone tell me how I can obtain a copy of the original certificate? I'm hoping to find the name of his father at some point. I know it's a long shot!
Thanks.

Hi
You might have a bit of trouble getting it. If it was your own cert you need to go through social workers (if adopted before 1975).
