*Arc TBC* --BMD-Marriage Albert Ward

Post by lorac »

Hi
Hope someone can help with this one, my father and I can't find anything.
Albert Ward Born April 1886 and Julia Ward Born March 1874, both born Dudley.

We know Julia nee Jones originally married Thomas Ward B Feb 1874, In April 1898 at ST James Church Woodside / Holly Hall and had one son William. The family story is that Julia then married his brother Albert, but we have never been able to find any trace of the marriage. They had three children and lived in Pedmore Road

Hoping someone can help

Thanks

A person should have an opinion on everything, It becomes tact whether you reveal that opinion or not.

I've done a basic search on the 1911 census (not subscribed) and found
Dudley
Albert Ward head 1886 marriage 1906
Julia ...... wife 1876 ......... 1911
William .... 1899
Mary .... 1905
Minnie ...... 1909
Strange!! perhaps marriage dates were difficult to decipher or perhaps they never wed.
I can't find a marriage either-tried Ward + Ward also Ward + Jones.

There was a law that prevented marrying deceased brothers/sisters may be thats why?
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.anc ... 921Act.htm

May be married much later if at all.

Hi Jac,

Definately the right family, where does the marriage 1906 come from?
There was another daughter (Elizabeth)born April so presume this was after the census date for 1911.

I've done similar searches myself, so am becoming more convinced that they never marries, especially as Graingers4 has brought to light a law I never knew about.

thanks guys for the help

Very doubtful Albert would not have been married before,he would have only been 18 when their first child was born 1904 and 17 when his brother died in 1903

That law was not adhered to, I have a Joseph Darby who Maried his dead wife's sister in 1850. They did go off to Birmingham to Marry though. HTH from Linell.
