Re: ONIONS, BROWN, TIFT and WALKER
Hi Norma and Welcome to the forum
I see the guys and gals have been busy
Now just to let you know that we have a dedicated Black Country Genealogy section if you just scroll
down the board
Any from that area then post in there we will do our best to help you.
Walsall may be just outside the BC area but we have a bit of a rubber Boundary
and once you have seen this I will move this topic to there.
The name Onions is very much a name we in the Black Country area come across a great deal!
We also have a huge Black Country tree going on too! Quite a few of us are involved in that and if you click on this link...
http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com
you may find some familiar names!
For any other ancestors from other counties then do please post in the General Discussion section
Good to have you with us

Re: ONIONS, BROWN, TIFT and WALKER
You must think I am so rude. Sorry to be so long in responding to your hard work. No sooner had I joined and posted than my computer went bad. After monkeying around with it, we gave up and bought a different one and so, finally, I'm back in business!
I am so grateful for what you have found Peter and Mally both. I think you may be right on with the names. The ONIONS at 70 Croft St. Walsall were my grandparents and my mother was born and grew up at that address. SARAH TIFT lived a few houses away on Croft St. and I was told she was a great aunt. She must have been my great great aunt. I do remember her. I found a letter saying that either my grand father, THOMAS ONIONS, or his family were thought to be from Shropshire. I believe that ELIJAH and HARRIET ONIONS were my great grand parents. My grandfather, THOMAS ONIONS, was a puddler. The BROWNs in question could well fit as FREDRICK BROWN was listed as age 3 in 1881 and the FREDRICK BROWN (boarder with the ONIONS) was listed as 21 in 1901. HENRIETTA BROWN is probably right too she was my grandmother's sister. I believe she married a man named WALKER and I know that they owned and operated a pub in either Blue Lane or Green Lane called "The Chain Maker's Arms". Through the 1940s. What does 6b 1075 mean referring to a marriage? Do you know how I could find out if I have any relatives alive from these results? I haven't a clue as to where to start. Thank you so much, I am more grateful than I can say, I do appreciate your efforts. What a surprise when I got back to the computer again!
Sincerely, Norma.

Welcome back Norma
Glad you have sorted your computer
6b 1075
This is the reference number for the General Record Office in London if you want to order the certificate -I think the only other thing you need is the year -and the names of the people involved

Thanks for the "re-welcomes"! I am not waiting for anything but where is the place you will put my query? How do I find it, I'm new at this and more than a bit lost! Norma.
