Re: Noah Hingley
I've had another look and found
1841Cuckoos corner, Cradley
Noah Hingley,30,Nailor
Sarah Hingley,30,
Emma,2,
Saul,5mths,
So that is linell's second Noah.
I'll go fishing for the other one.

Some good info there kdw
We still need to verify though anything we add
Can we find based on that info a bapt is that then our Noah that married that Ann
and that marriage to ann needs finding
I think it is that ann whittingham one there is a bapt that fits for her
but why the Linton? family name?
I think that is our Noah HIngley and those kids have a mother called Sarah who it looks like is Sarah Willetts
so I think we could add Sarah and link to those kids that there are bapts for
So did he have any kids with Ann?
Shall we add then Sarah Willetts and sort the kids out ie to which mother
then if we find a bapt and parents I think we can add that if we agree with parents being Isaac and Esther
what do we think?
get it moving but as accurate as we can

Re: Noah Hingley
There were several Noah (H)ingleys in Rowley and Cradley in the early nineteenth century.
Noah Hingley the ironmaster was born in March 1796 but baptised 13 January 1814 at Dudley, son of Isaac and Esther nee Williams who had married at Clent on 7 June 1789. He started work when, with his father, he set up a forge and small chainmaking factory in Cradley, in the early 1800s. The works outgrew the site and in 1845 he moved to Netherton on the banks of the Birmingham Canal. Kenneth Mallin, the writer of a study of the firm, tells us that "The key to their early success lay in developing a colony of skilled Cradley men and women on which the enterprise was based." It was during his frequent visits to Liverpool that Noah accepted an initial order to make ships' cables, with no knowledge of cable making techniques! In 1848 he introduced the making of anchors to the Black Country and by the end of the century the area was the world centre for the manufacture of anchors and cables.
Noah married twice. Firstly to Sarah Willetts on 25 December 1814 at Kingswinford. She was born 1794, died 8 October 1832 and he re-married, to Ann Linton Whittingham (1797-1871) on 10 June 1833 (source: Oxford Dictionary of National Biography). Ann was the daughter of John Whittingham of Liverpool (source: Burkes Peerage and Baronetage in the entry for son Benjamin). She gave the name Linton to Linton House down Drew's Holloway in Cradley where they lived. Perhaps Linton was her mother's maiden name???
Sarah was the mother of all Noah's children. I think the complete list is as follows:
Mary Maria: b. 23.06.1815; d. 02.07.1885; m. Thomas Attwood
Esther: b. 15.11.1816; d. 13.12.1820
James: b. 25.04.1818; d. 14.06.1885; m. Anne Stevens 21.10 1839
Joseph: b.05.06.1821; d. 24.04.1900; m. Anne Hewitt 12.06.1873
Eli: b. 21.05.1823; d. 19.06.1893; m. Charlotte Parkes?
Hezekiah: b.31.03.1825; d. 16 or 17.04.1865; m. Fanny Georgina Thompson of Liverpool
Benjamin: b. 1830; d. 13.05.1905
Leah: b. 1826?; d. 1913
John: d. 1889; m. Mary?, emigrated to Australia?
Samuel: b. 19.09.1829; d. ??.10.1901;
Benjamin: b. 11.04or 09.1830; d. 13.05.1905
And while on the subject of "big names", Samuel married twice, firstly to Katherine Barrett (d.24.04.1865), then to Harriet Rumer Moore nee Godden (1844-1906) of Birkenhead, the mother of Rumer Godden, a prolific and well-known author, many of whose books have been made into films.
I hope this helps. Incidentally, I believe I am descended from Noah's brother Josiah, via his daughter Rosannah who married William Raybould in about 1825 (or perhaps they never did, because after 12 years of searching I have never found the date and place). So Noah is my 4 x great grandfather's brother, some sort of great uncle.
