*Arc * -Amelia & Louis Davies from Staffs
I am searching for information on Louis and Amelia Davies. Louis was born in Bradley/Bilston in 1882 the son of Mining Engineer, William J Davies. Amelia, my natural Grandmother, was born Amelia Rutherford in Glasgow in 1883. They were married in Wolverhampton in 1927 and at that time Louis worked at the Patent Shaft and Axeltree Works in Wednesbury. Louis died locally in 1957 and Amelia in 1976. Would appreciate any info on what they did with their lives, family, employment, service to community, etc.

Re: Amelia & Louis Davies from Staffs
Thanks for that. Its rather a complicated story. Amelia Rutherford gave birth to my father in 1901 when she was just 18 years old and my father was "adopted" by a family in Greenock from whom we get our name. Amelia married seaman Leonard Pirie in 1909 while still in Glasgow, but came down south to the Black Country shortly afterwards (following her mother and Grandparents who were originally from Wednesbury). Her Grandfather was Thomas Rogers Horton, a Wheelwright and Engineer, who came from Wednesbury but worked in Glasgow for many years. Pirie worked in Sierra Leone, but Amelia apparently did not join him. The couple were divorced in 1924 allowing Amelia to marry for the second time. I've done all the usual BMD and Census searches, but am left wondering whether Amelia and Louis Davies left any impression on the community. As far as I can tell they lived in Wolverhampton or Penn, and Davies was some kind of a manager in the Wednesbury Patent Shaft and Axeltree works.

Re: Amelia & Louis Davies from Staffs
I haven't gone through everyone's replies yet, but thanks to all for helping. What I have gleaned is that Louis Davies was the son of Mine Owner and Chief Mining Engineer, WJ Davies, of the Bradley Mine in Bilston. From his WW1 war record he was a Gunner in France, but called home in 1916 to help with the war effort at the Patent Shaft and Axeltree Works to work on tank production. His was obviously a family of some substance even though he died with "next to nothing" in the 1950's. Louis and Amelia were married at Wolverhampton Registry Office, probably because Amelia was a divorcee, but maybe also because Louis was Catholic and Amelia Episcopalian. I've found no record of their marriage in the Wolverhampton newspaper. I was rather hoping to find a photograph !!
