Not an old old Black Country name but my 2*g Grandfather made an escape bid from the North East and settled around Sedgeley at the later end of the 1800's and they gradually moved further in until my grandparents lived in Old Hill.
Anyone heard of it at all?

GLADDERS:
1881 Round Rd Lodge Sedgley, Stafford,
William GLADDERS 51 Newcastle On Tyne Blacksmith
Mary A. GLADDERS 41 Worcester,
William GLADDERS 7 Sedgley, Stafford, Scholar
John GLADDERS 2 Sedgley, Stafford,
William 7 is William Henry (my G Grandfather)
William senior is where the story goes off to Durham -
1861 he was widowed in Yorkshire
1851he was married to Elizabeth Ann Horton in HOughton-le-Spring
1841 he was living with maternal grandparents Brown in H-le-S
I can't find him in 1871 - this is my brick wall as far as census's go but I have seen signatures of both William (Durham) and William (Sedgley) and they appear to match
Closest I've got in 1871 is a Wick Gladstone Blacksmith, right age, in Yorkshire, lodger, who I can't find in 1851 1871 -question was it poor writing or is he completely the wrong person? He states he is mar but was definitely a widower by then but could have still been grieving?

Re: Surname "Gladders"
Flagging to move to archives now unless anyone wants to add those Gladders to bcc and run with more on them
Mg will be joining BCC so can add hers where necessary
So will move to arc section unless otherwise advised
