John's widow, Sarah Ann, received a
Widow's Pension of 15/0d (15 shillings exactly) per week for herself and her son, effective from 5th June 1916. Her pension was re-calculated at £1/7/9d (1 pound 7 shillings and 9 pence) from 4th November 1918 under the 'Alternative Pensions' rules which catered for men who had been higher paid. This would entitle her to claim up to two-thirds of her husband's pre-war earnings (up to a max of 66s 8d a week). Sarah's address was 401 Manchester Road, Roaches, Mossley, Manchester, living with her parents
