Joseph was born on the 11th of April 1852 in Pensnett, Kingswinford, Staffordshire, England to parents Joseph Jones a Labourer and Sarah Ryder, address at the time was recorded as High Oak, Kingswinford.
He married Alice Harris on the 5th of September 1875 at Saint Thomas in Dudley, Worcester, England and they had 2 children Keturah born 1876 and Ethel born 1880, Keturah passed away aged 15 years in 1892 and his wife Alice passed away aged 47 years in 1898.
Joseph was tried on the 7th of March 1907 in Staffordshire, England before Mr Justice Walton charged with the willful murder of his son-in-law Edmund Clarke1 December 1906. ,he was found guilty and sentenced to be Hanged.
Joseph passed away on the 26th of March 1907 at His Majesty's Prison in Staffordshire, England aged 60 years old, judgement of death in accordance with the capital punishment act 1868 for willful murder of Edmund Clarke.

An inquest was held on the 26th of March 1907 in Staffordshire, England, certificate received from T.W Morgan deputy coroner for No 3 Stafford District.
Joseph was buried on the 26th of March 1907 shortly after his execution in the Stafford Goal Burial Grounds in unmarked grave.
