Hi, I'm new to this forum, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to be posting it to, but I need some help with family history.
I come from the Blenkinsopp family of Northumberland, and via the IGI the earliest I have came to find my family was that of
"George Blenkinsop--Born 1674 in Newcastle, who married a woman, called Elizabeth" (I presume Sharon, or Shasen.)
In finding his father, I was able to roughly trace it back to "John Blenkinsop (Blenkinship), born 1645, who married a woman called Margret Forster, and was christened in All Saints Church, Newcastle"
Going from here, I have had further problems, I have frequently come into erroneous claims that his father was "George Blenkinship, born 1625 in Brancepeth" but further information from the IGI suggests otherwise, and that his father was a man called:--
--"George Blenkinship, born 1620 in Whickham"
But, I have been unable to locate who his father was, and who his wife was, so if anybody can help me out here, I will be most grateful.
JackB
P.S --I am pretty sure that "John Blenkinsops' (Blenkingsop) (Blenkinship), born 1645", father' was "George Blenkinship, born 1620 in Whickham, Durham", but I will need further clarification for this.
Thank you
George Blenkinship, Born 1620, Ancestry

Hello JackB.
Have you heard of the web site FreeREG, where volunteers transcribe BMD Parish Registers?
https://www.freereg.org.uk/
You may already have the following, but this is what I have found on FreeREG:-
Marriage: 10 Jan 1696/97 Christ Church, Tynemouth, Northumberland (FreeREG)
George Blinkinshop & Elizabeth Sharon
George would have been aged about 22yrs on his marriage, so this looks like his Baptism:
Baptism: 31 May 1674 All Saints, Newcaslte Upon Tyne, Northumberland (FreeREG)
George Blenkinsop - Father: John Blenkinsop - Father's Occ: Smith
??George's Parents Marriage: married 2 years before George was born
Marriage: 15 Oct 1672 All Saints, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Northumberland (FreeREG)
John Blenkinsop - Occ: Smith & Margaret Forster
You may already have these children of a father named John Blenkinsop
1) Baptism: 16 Feb 1672/73 All Saints, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (FreeREG)
Rachell - Father: John Blenkinsop - Occ: Smith
2) Baptism: 31 May 1674 All Saints, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (FreeREG)
George - Father: John Blenkinsop - Occ: Smith
3) Baptism: 24 Sep 1676 All Saints, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (FreeREG)
Christofer - Father: John Blenkinsop - Occ: Smith
4) Baptism: 23 Jun 1678 All Saints, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (FreeREG)
Thomas - Father: John Blenkinsop - Occ: Smith
5) Baptism: 15 Feb 1679/80 All Saints, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (FreeREG)
Margret - Father: JAMES Blenkinsop - Occ: Smith
(Should Father's name be John??)
You have already found this baptism of a John Blenkinsop
Baptism: 7 Apr 1645 All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland (FreeREG)
John - Father: George Blenkinship - Occ: A Copler
This could be the burial of John Blenkinsop
???Burial: 3 Oct 1711 All Saints, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (FreeREG)
John Blenkinship - Notes: Smith
I think you may be on the correct track with looking for a George, because John's first son was named George and further back you go, it is normal for the first son of a marriage was to take the father's father's name and the first daughter to take the mother's mother's name. To try to get back any further, you will need to look for the individual families with George as the father. This is what I had to do when I started my family tree and they weren't on any web sites back then, I had to travel to various Archives up and down the country
